How to use PDF to Excel
- Choose PDF to Excel and select a PDF that contains the data you want.
- Approve the upload and let Dropshift detect tables or extract text from the file.
- Download the XLSX workbook and check column boundaries, values and number formats before using it.
A few useful details
PDF files store page appearance, not always the structure of a spreadsheet. Dropshift detects tables where possible. When no table is found, it exports text lines to rows so the content is still available for cleanup.
What to know first
A PDF conversion does not reconstruct original spreadsheet formulas. Merged cells, complex borders and scanned tables may need manual correction.
Pro uploads are limited to 50 MB per file and 50 PDF pages. OCR, including automatic OCR during conversion, is limited to 20 pages. Each successful file uses one operation. Review the current plan allowance before processing a batch.
Answers for this task
Can I extract PDF tables into Excel?
Dropshift detects tables in supported PDFs and exports the result to XLSX. If no table is detected, it exports extracted text lines into rows. Check columns, numbers and dates before using the workbook.
Will PDF-to-Excel restore the original formulas?
No. A PDF normally stores the displayed page, not spreadsheet formulas. The output is useful for editing or analysis after you verify the extracted values.
Common questions
Will the original formulas be recovered?
No. A PDF normally contains displayed values rather than the formulas that produced them.
What happens if there is no table?
Dropshift exports text lines to spreadsheet rows. Use the preview in your spreadsheet app to decide how to organize that content.
