How to use PDF to Word
- Select PDF to Word in the extension and add a PDF. Activate Pro in Settings if needed.
- Confirm the file upload to the Dropshift conversion service and start the conversion.
- Download the DOCX file, then review headings, tables and reading order in your preferred document editor.
A few useful details
Dropshift rebuilds a Word document from the text and tables it detects. Scanned pages use optical character recognition first. The result is designed for editing the content, rather than reproducing every design detail of the original PDF.
What to know first
Complex layouts, columns, unusual fonts and low-resolution scans can need cleanup. Exact page layout is not preserved. Each successful file conversion uses one Pro operation.
Pro uploads are limited to 50 MB per file and 50 PDF pages. OCR, including automatic OCR during conversion, is limited to 20 pages. Each successful file uses one operation. Review the current plan allowance before processing a batch.
Answers for this task
Can I batch convert PDF files to Word?
Yes. Select multiple compatible PDFs for the PDF-to-Word workflow. Each successful file uses one Pro operation, and multiple DOCX results are packaged in a ZIP. Use smaller batches for large documents.
Can I turn a scanned PDF into an editable Word document?
Yes. Dropshift applies English OCR when a scanned page has no usable text layer, then exports recognized text to DOCX. This is an editable text reconstruction, not an exact copy of the original design. Check the output against the scan.
Common questions
Is the Word document editable?
Yes. The output contains editable text and detected tables. The original PDF layout is not reproduced exactly.
Can it handle a scanned PDF?
Scans are processed with OCR before export. Recognition quality depends on the clarity and language of the scan. English OCR is included in the current deployment.
